What would be the best way to heat up an iron shot put so I could take a thermal image of it?

I want a uniform heating pattern.

Iron conducts pretty well so an oven would heat it all around and it would heat through. Then it would give off infrared when in an environment cooler than the oven. You could use a blow torch on it. It would heat up quickly.
